The Dominican cement industry has a surplus of 48% over its installed capacity. Speaking at a luncheon meeting of the Dominican Association of Portland Cement Producers (Adocem) yesterday, Tuesday 28 April 2015, Carlos Emilio Gonzalez, president of the organization, said that the average price for a 100lb. bag of cement is RD$200 which is unsustainable for the industry. He said this is below the previous prices of RD$310-RD$235 in February. He attributed the decline in the price to overproduction in a highly competitive market.
