The @PresidenciaRD Twitter account is one of the most popular government accounts in the whole world with 55,454 tweets a day and 207,467 followers, according to the annual “Twiplomacy” study by communications consultancy agency Burson Marsteller.
This is the third year that the Dominican Republic Presidency’s Twitter account has featured among the most popular government accounts in Latin America, staying in second position this year. The only ones ranked higher are Mexico’s @PresidenciaMX and Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro’s personal account.
EngageBurson-Marsteller president Stella Leon said that the Dominican Presidency had a very well defined social media strategy. The consultancy firm’s executive vice president, Raul Baez, said that the Dominican government was an example when it comes to the use of technology, not only throughout Latin America but also the world.
