Salary committee calls meeting

The National Salary Committee (CNS) has invited unions and management sector representatives to a meeting on Wednesday, 13 May 2015 to continue discussing ideas for the minimum wage for the workers in the non-sectored private sector. National Salary Committee chairman Felix Hidalgo said that the meeting would take place at the Ministry of Labor at 9am. The review of the minimum salary requires the participation of the management sector, labor representatives and the State as the arbiter of the process.

Union leader Rafael (Pepe) Abreu said that despite the unions’ efforts to search for a favorable agreement, management and government have not shown any interest in responding to workers’ demands.

During the meeting on 13 May the CNS will seek to obtain policies that are acceptable for the modification of the Labor Code, an across-the-board salary increase, and initiatives aimed at improving living conditions for Dominican workers.
