Transport vandals threaten school bus full of children

Earlier this week, the nation was able to witness the consequences of the government’s lenience towards vandalism by the bus transport monopoly in the city. A school hired a bus service to take children on an outing to the National Book Fair. Two bus unions that had not been hired for the excursion tried to stop the bus. Children and teachers had to get off the vehicle after the transport vandals threatened to set it on fire. The incident occurred on Monday, 27 April 2015 near the Metropolitan Transport Authority station at Km 25 of Las Americas Highway, but the transporters, who are members of the Choferes Profesionales de Boca Chica (Sichoproboch) and the Asociacion de Choferes de Minibuses de Boca Chica (Asochombca) were not arrested. Three police officers intervened when the drivers tried to attack the teachers who were accompanying the children. AMET spokesman Diego Pesqueira told El Dia that the incident is under investigation.

Meanwhile, Prosecutor General Francisco Dominguez Brito said that anyone found to be responsible for the incident would be prosecuted. He said the drivers had violated the Minors Code and could be accused of criminal association.

Santo Domingo province prosecutor Olga Dina Llaverias says she has received instructions to act and arrest the drivers if they do not voluntarily present themselves for questioning.
