Central Electoral Board (JCE) president Roberto Rosario says that he met with Hacienda Minister Simon Lizardo on Friday, 1 May 2015 to discuss a solution to the funding crisis at the JCE.
Rosario said he had set out everything that was needed for the 2016 elections, a year before they are to be held, with full details on each product and service needed and their cost. He also said that he was sorry about the 300 employees who were dismissed from their jobs and that it had been a difficult decision. Most worked in the identity card section as they had been working for the JCE for a shorter period of time so their severance payments were lower. Rosario said that more people could be dismissed in the future if the government does not come through with the needed funds.
