United Kingdom helping the DNCD

The United Kingdom National Criminal Investigations Unit has donated equipment to the Dominican National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) for the fight against drug trafficking to Europe.

The United Kingdom announced the creation of a new tool against drug dealing networks that use boats and ports to take drugs to Europe by sea. It is known as the Maritime Intelligence Team, which operates as part of the Information and Coordination Center to identify and monitor the movements of suspicious boat traffic bringing drugs from South America.

The UK has a special interest in the region due to the fact that several islands in the Caribbean are or were British territories.

The equipment was handed over by Nick Fowler, an official with the UK National Criminal Investigation Unit, who highlighted the important role the DNCD is playing in combating international drug trafficking due to the country’s geographical location.

DNCD chief, Major General Julio Cesar Souffront Velasquez, and Maggie Titmuss, representing the United Kingdom also signed a cooperation agreement.
