Wrong headline gives hope and then dashes it

Listin Diario publishes an article under the headline “Sugar mill will save the economy of Puerto Plata”. However, the article refers to a surprise visit by President Danilo Medina to the province of Monte Plata, where he ordered the construction of a new sugar mill, which many believe will herald the resurrection of the economy of the province. The area around Monte Plata has long been part of the country’s sugar growing areas, and with this investment of some US$7 million the government is trying to restore this once-profitable crop to the province. The project will include 16,000 tareas belonging to sugar farmers and their associations in Monte Plata, Ozama, Boca Chica, Guerra and Los Llanos. It is estimated that the sugar mill and the farms will create 3189 new jobs that will contribute to improve the living conditions of nearly 10,000 inhabitants of the Chirino municipal district including Cruz Verde, where the new and modern sugar mill will be built.
