Alfa gets community service for unpatriotic video

Dominican urban music artist Emanuel “El Alfa” Herrera was ordered to carry out 15 days of community service on Wednesday, 6 May 2015. He reached an agreement with state prosecutors after he posted a video on YouTube where he used profane language against the country’s founding fathers Juan Pablo Duarte, Matias Ramon Mella and Francisco del Rosario Sanchez. He was arrested and questioned on 1 May 2015, as reported.

The artist was ordered to clean up the Plaza de la Bandera in Santo Domingo from 8 to 10am while singing the national anthem.

The decision was made after the video reached the attention of prosecutors after sparking controversy when it was shared across social media. The video can no longer be viewed online.
