Conep calls for review of Land Use Bill

The National Business Council (Conep) is calling for Congress to open consultations on the Land Use Bill that passed a first reading in the Chamber of Deputies last week. In a written request, the leading business group expressed its concern at some of the articles contained in the bill, whose application Conep says is confusing and that could be in violation of the Constitution. Conep says several of these articles contradict previously signed international agreements that regulate climate change, land and marine use, including Solas, Marpol, Basel, Kyoto Protocol, Falt-65 and the International Maritime Organization. Conep recommended carrying out an economic impact study of the financing mechanisms incorporated in the bill, and on whether it is advisable to create more provinces, on the grounds that this could increase the costs in the National Budget.
