Former Minister of Tourism Frank Jorge Elias has been ordered to pay RD$300,000 to three non-governmental organizations, the Violence-Free Life Foundation, the Women’s Support Group (NAM) and the Abused Women Support Board (Pacam), which work on the issue of violence against women. He was also instructed to visit a psychologist for a period of six months.
National District Fifth Court of Instruction Judge Arisleyda Mendez sentenced the TV businessman, who had been accused of domestic violence against his former wife of 32 years Sandra Kurdas. He is subject to a restraining order and has also been ordered to transmit programs that educate against violence on his TV Channel Super Canal (Channel 33) over the same period.
With the decision, the judge suspended the process against the businessman.
The judge says that if Jorge does not comply with the instructions, the process could be resumed.
