Plea not to make abortion legal

Pro-life activist and former United Nations representative Amparito Medina, says that if abortion is made legal in the country it could increase by as much as 70% in the first few years.

At a press conference held yesterday, Monday, 11 May 2015, Medina said that when abortion was legalized in Spain some 10 years ago there were around six to eight thousand illegal abortions a year. Now the country has 113,000 abortions a year, most carried out on teenagers.

She also criticized companies that hand out condoms to young people, saying that this encouraged children as young as 12 to engage in sexual relationships, which often led to an unwanted pregnancy and subsequent abortion.

Medina said that the Dominican Republic is being pressured by many international organizations that want the country to legalize abortion but she asked them to consider that it was murder and that it was better to encourage family values and controlled sexual relations.
