Autopsy says fat embolism syndrome killed young woman

The autopsy carried out by the National Forensic Pathology Institute on a woman from the US, Sharilene Evelis Cedeno, who came to the Dominican Republic for plastic surgery, has revealed the cause of death as fat embolism syndrome following liposuction and lipo-injection procedures carried out by surgeon Edgar Contreras. Following the patient’s death, Contreras’ clinic Centro Medico Plastico Contreras was closed down and his license suspended. The autopsy concluded that there was no medical malpractice in the procedure, as reported in El Dia.
