Salaries’ committee to meet

The fifth meeting of the National Salaries’ Committee (CNS) is being held today, Wednesday, 13 May 2015. The committee is trying to reach an agreement between businesses and workers to agree on an increase in the minimum salary for the non-sectorized private sector.

The meeting at the Ministry of Labor is scheduled to start at 9am. The media reported that private business has offered an 8% increase. Joel Santos, president of the Dominican Management Confederation (Copardom), said that unions are seeking a 30% increase for minimum wage earners and the business sector is looking for a reclassification of businesses.

However, other unions led by Rafael Abreu, Jacobo Ramos and Gabriel del Rio Done, do not want the same reclassification and Abreu has now asked for the support from the government, via CNS chairman Felix Hidalgo, to vote in favor of their request.
