Senator Felix Bautista to go back to court

Supreme Court judges have set a date for the hearing of an appeal by the Public Prosecution Service for 30 June 2015 to revoke the decision to cancel the case against Senator Felix Bautista and another six people for alleged corruption and money laundering.

Judges Miriam German Brito, Frank Soto and Esther Agelan Casasnova of the Second Penal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, set the hearing for 9am after deciding that the appeal against the cancellation of the case, as presented by Attorney General, Francisco Dominguez Brito, was valid. The Supreme Court of Justice needs to appoint two replacement judges for the case.

The judges stated that the accused should be notified and they are Felix Bautista, Soraida Antonia Abreu Martinez, Jose Elias Hernandez Garcia, Bolivar Antonio Ventura Rodriguez, Carlos Manuel Ozoria Martinez, Gricel Aracelis Soler Pimentel and Bienvenido Apolinar Breton Medina.

Specialized Prosecution Unit for Administrative Corruption (Pepca) director Laura Guerrero Pelletier said that the 661-page file contradicts the arguments of Judge Alejandro Moscoso Segarra of the Supreme Court of Justice to deny the hearing of the accusations against the senator in court.

Presiding judge Miriam German is known for her impartiality. In cases where she has not been in agreement with a court ruling, she has issued outstanding dissident opinions.
