Transport unions having a tiff

A disagreement has broken out between FENATRADO president Blas Peralta and the Santo Domingo Trucks and Containers Union over the control of shipments being taken to Haiti via Jimani.

The Container Union claims that 23 trucks carrying a range of products were prevented from entering Haiti after truck drivers in Jimani refused to let them pass.

The also say that another 30 of their trucks en route to Jimani may not be allowed to reach their final destination.

Members of the Santo Domingo Trucks and Containers Union claim that a similar incident occurred several weeks ago with truck drivers in Pedro Brand when Blas Peralta is said to have given them preference for taking the delivery to a metal plant on kilometer 25 on the Duarte Highway.

The general secretary of the Santo Domingo Trucks and Containers Union, Alfonso Francisco, is having a meeting at Peralta’s office to try and find a solution to this problem.

In the meantime, more than 200 trucks were parked along Autopista 30 de Mayo waiting for instructions to leave.
