Honey production in the Dominican Republic is at around 1.8 million kilograms, with an estimated 3,500 honey producers and around 74,654 commercial hives producing on average 25 kilograms of honey a year, according to statistics from the Dominican Republic Center for Export & Investment (CEI-RD). CEI-RD says that exports from 2012-2014 were 134,305 kilograms for RD$2.1 million. The harvest starts in September, with peaks in April and May of the following year. The northwest is the country’s largest honey producing area. The apiculture division at the Ministry of Agriculture is preparing a national registry of honey producers.
