Jose Miguel Rodriguez Almonte (alias Job) was buried in Santiago yesterday, Monday 15 June 2015 amidst heavy police surveillance. The National Police had arrested Rodriguez Almonte and accused him of the violent murder of journalist Blas Olivo and other crimes.
Rodriguez Almonte was killed by a Police contingent while being held at the Monte Plata jail. Reportedly, he was armed and confronted the contingent that was searching the jail after reportedly being notified that Rodriguez was armed. The Police have announced that the Attorney General Office will give a press conference with details.
In the past, Rodriguez Almonte (Job) had been accused of carrying out contract killings linked to capo Jose David Figueroa Agosto, who was sentenced to 209 years in jail in Puerto Rico. Rodriguez Almonte was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murders of Colonel Jose Amado Gonzalez, businessman Ruben Soto Hayet (outside La Francesa bakery in Santo Domingo) and Omar Antigua Polanco in 2010, related to Figueroa Agosto.
Earlier, in 1998, Rodriguez Almonte was convicted and sentenced for murdering his girlfriend but was pardoned by former President Leonel Fernandez on 11 August 2000, four days prior to leaving office.
