Dominican woman arrested with drugs

The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) has arrested a Dominican woman who was trying to fly to Brussels with 11 packages of a white powder, presumed to be cocaine or heroin, in her luggage. The 27-year old woman will appear in court shortly and the drugs have been sent to the National Forensic Science Institute for analysis and weighing.

At the same time, the DNCD investigations department is looking for the other people in the chain, both in the country and overseas, to identify the network of dealers and mules responsible for the drugs.

In another case, a 47-year old Dominican, Angel Burgos was sentenced to 32 months in jail plus a fine after returning to Canada where he was living with around 12 kilos of cocaine hidden in packets of coffee. Burgos returned to Canada arriving at Toronto airport from El Catey in Samana and the Canadian authorities found the drugs. The DNCD had given the Canadian authorities the information that led to his subsequent conviction.
