Half of Dominicans repatriated for drug offenses

So far this year, 426 Dominicans have been repatriated from the United States after having completed sentences for drug dealing and another 451 for other crimes, for a total of 877.

Each month, between 210 and 215 ex-convicts are returned to the country, via Las Americas Airport. Of the 877 Dominicans repatriated from the US, only 17 are women. The non-drug trafficking offenders repatriated include 78 individuals that were convicted of assault and robbery, 66 for forgery of documents, 33 for sexual crimes, 11 for kidnapping, 9 for illegal weapons possession and 8 for arson.
