A Dominican Air Force Colonel on active duty and his son have been arrested together with a brother in law of the convicted drug dealer Ernesto Bienvenido Guevara Diaz (Maconi) and another seven people having been accused of trying to bring 337.51 kilos of pure cocaine ashore near Barahona last Friday, 19 June 2015 at dawn. Guevara Diaz served time in the United States and was released after reaching a deal with the US judiciary and returned to the Dominican Republic to enjoy his assets.
A source at the Barahona Public Prosecution office said those involved were Colonel Andres Francisco Reyes Ortiz and his 19 year old son Francer Andres Reyes Vargas; Raymiel Alexander Aponte Bautista; Venezuelan Eudis Mendez Diaz; Francisco Antonio Urbaez Suero (Robelin) and the brother in law of Maconi, Josue Mercedes de la Rosa; Arnaldo Joel Perez Vargas; Pablo Santana Gomez; Confesor Perez and Eyuris Felix Santana.
The operation had two stages; in the first one 238 packets were confiscated once the group had transferred them in open sea, and the second operation on land another involved 100 packages being confiscated as they were loaded into a Ford pickup in which “Robelin”, Confesor and Santana Gomez were passengers
The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) said that “Robelin”, is one of the richest men in the south of the country.
