Haiti stops its people from shopping on DR market day

Despite statements by Haiti Prime Minister Evan Pauls denying that the Haitian government would restrict the entry of Dominican produce into Haiti, it was documented that a de-facto embargo was applied on Friday, 26 June 2015. The bi-national market that operates on Monday and Friday had to be suspended in Dajabon after Haitian authorities did not allow Haitians to cross into the Dominican republic. A larger than normal contigent of Haitian military patrolled the Dajabon border crossing point.

Diario Libre reported also that the decision was taken in reprisal to claims of the deporting of 30 Haitians from the Dominican Republic on Thursday evening.

Diario Libre reported that the market at the border passes in Pedernales operated normally.
