Roberto Salcedo is promoting his aspirations to run for mayor for the National District (Santo Domingo) in the May 2016 election. He is known for his controversial investments of public funds in modifying parks and greenspace within the city. These works include the popularly called Zooberto with huge African jungle statues on J.F. Kennedy Avenue; the Parque Iberoamericano, where dozens of trees were torn down and where for the past two years an area is lit up with a million lights and where an amphitheater has been added for concerts late into the night right besides two hospitals and residential areas. Questions have also been raised surrounding the modification of Guibia Park, where every year truckloads of sand and portable pools are set up to recreate a beach for low income city residents. This work is estimated to have cost RD$60 million. Finally, the Diario Libre has published a feature showing how an outdoor gym is rusted and useless.
Last year, Diario Libre also complained about the deterioration of the facility.
