The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT) announced that it has lowered the grade average required for Dominican high school graduates to qualify for scholarships for local and foreign studies from 80 to 75.
The lower qualifying grade average was included as part of the announcement of Ministry to encourage students in Santiago to apply for the scholarships, as reported in the Listin Diario.
Minister of Higher Education, Ligia Amada Melo, told Listin Diario the measure seeks to benefit dozens of youths from Santiago who do not have the resources to cover their expenses to study at universities.
There are scholarships available to study at the UASD, PUCMM, UTESA and UNEV, ISA, and ISFODOSU.
An additional 1,000 scholarships are available for studies abroad.
