Tourism expert Juan Llado calls for the topping of the Av. Del Puerto wall to enable the construction of a parking area for tourist buses. Llado says that the president of the National Academy of History, Bernardo Vega, has determined that the reasons for the wall’s existence no longer valid. The wall was built by dictator Trujillo to protect the Fortaleza Ozama where political prisoners were kept and to make contraband difficult at the port of Santo Domingo.
