Millions missing again from Santiago airport depot

Eight employees of the Customs Agency who work at the Cibao International Airport are under investigation by government prosecutors in Santiago concerning a robbery in the airport’s terminal areas of millions of pesos.

Head prosecutor, Luisa Liranzo confirmed arrests have been made followed the investigations.

At the same time, there were police raids across the city after officers from the Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police, together with prosecutors and experts from the Police Scientific branch, had reviewed security cameras installed at the airport and determined that these cameras may have recorded criminal activity.

There is no report so far on how much money is missing n but it is thought to be in the millions. This is the second curious incident involving Customs Agency employees in Santiago. In 2010, eight people, mostly the children of important Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) officials, were tried for extortion related to import of high caliber fire arms and other goods, These individuals were accused of demanding up to 100 million pesos to allow these goods to pass through customs. In that case, all defendants were freed.
