President Danilo Medina has bestowed the order of merit, Duarte, Sanchez and Mella, on the President of the Republic of China, Ma Ying-jeou, who has been in the country since Sunday, 12 July 2015.
In his remarks during the honors event, Medina highlighted the support that the Taiwanese government has offered to the Dominican people in a wide range of areas, including education and the environment. Medina stressed how diplomatic relations had strengthened between the two countries over recent years.
President Medina said that Taiwan has cultivated good relations on both sides of the straits of Taiwan and which has contributed to the Dominican Republic’s ability to enter into important agreements with both Taiwan and mainland China in variety of areas such as air transport, tourism and food safety.
Ying-jeou pledged to continue to work for the prosperity of both nations, highlighting that Taiwan has invested over US$50 million in development and natural resource conservation in the Dominican Republic in each administration.
