In the first six months of the year in the Dominican Republic, there have been 975 fatalities due to traffic accidents. Another 5,863 people have been injured on the nation’s roads and highways reports the Metropolitan Transport Authority (AMET). AMET calls the statistics alarming and urges drivers to exercise caution. As reported in Diario Libre, most accidents (261) have occurred on Sundays, as people return to their homes from weekend outings. The deadliest month for vehicle accidents was in January, when 170 deaths and 955 injuries were reported.
