The Chamber of Deputies voted to replace its spokesman Ruben Maldonado, a loyal supporter of the Leonel Fernandez faction in the lower house, for Elpidio Baez, known to be a strong ally of President Danilo Medina. Diario Libre reports that the move confirms the strength of the leadership that Medina exercises within the PLD, despite the party being headed by former President Leonel Fernandez. Temistocles Montas said that Baez won the positon as spokesperson for the PLD after receiving 65% of the votes.
Baez immediately said that his priority would be on addressing issues of public safety.
