The Ministry of Culture announced the artists chosen to participate in the 28th National Biennial of the Visual Arts. Of 606 works that competed, 242 were chosen.
Maria Elena Ditren, director of the Museum of Modern Art and coordinator of the Organizing Committee for the Biennial, highlighted the diversity of the works chosen to be featured.
The event is organized by the Ministry of Culture and the Museum of Modern Art.
The selection jurors this year were educator, architect and art critic, Amelia Soto; researcher, educator and art critic, Odalis Perez; artist, director and founder of the Foundation for the Development and Promotion of Dominican Photography, Mayra Johnson.
The works were chosen in painting (89), drawing (24), sculpture (21), graphic arts (18), installation art (37), plastic actions-performance (8), photography (30), and video and multimedia (6).
The 28th Biennial of the Visual Arts opens on 16 August at 7pm at the Museum of Modern Art. This year the festival is dedicated to Dominican visual artist Fernando Pena Defillo.
The artists whose work were chosen will now compete for awards. The awards jurors are Dominican artists Jorge Severino, Danilo de los Santos and Michele Dalmace of the University Bordeaux Montaigne.
