Schools in the Dominican Republic will reopen on Monday, 17 August 2015, with an expected enrollment of 2.7 million students in public and private schools. Of these, 1.9 million are expected to public schools while another 800,000 will enroll in private schools.
The Ministry of Education reached out to more than 7,000 parent associations to urge that community leaders motivate parents to send their children to school on the first day of classes. Many parents (especially in rural areas) do not send their children to class during the first days of school.
The Ministry has The Ministry announced it is distributing 6.7 million elementary school books, 2.4 million texts for high school and 900,000 books for adult education programs.
