On Sunday, 9 August, 2015, it was Dominican Day Parade in New York and Mayor de Blasio was booed all the way along Sixth Avenue. The crowd was reacting to de Blasio’s criticism of the Dominican Republic’s migration policy.
On the other hand Governor Cuomo received a rousing reception as he walked a block ahead of de Blasio with some parade goers showing signs saying “Dominicans with Cuomo,” in Spanish.
Cuomo also accepted two awards at separate Dominican Day breakfasts before the parade; one for his commitment to the community in Washington Heights and the other for fighting worker exploitation.
De Blasio was not invited to either event.
