Operations to round up illegals continue

Over the weekend, officers and officials from Immigration and military personnel from the Armed the Forces intensified the operation to identify and detain illegal foreigners who are living in the country, as reported in El Nacional. The authorities of the Migration Agency (DGM) and the Ministry of Defense intensified the operations to detain and repatriate illegal foreigners that did not register for the National Foreigner Legalization Plan (PNRE).

A source told the El Nacional that on Wednesday, more than 30 Haitians who had been detained in the eastern and northwestern parts of the county and in the provinces of Santiago, Santo Domingo and the National District were repatriated through the border crossing points of Jimani and Dajabon.

In addition, at military control points in the North and South regions of the country, soldiers and inspectors from Migration were ordered to restrict the ability of undocumented foreigners from traveling from one town to another. As reported, in the border region, the government is installing in technical equipment to register those who are repatriated and obtain their biometric data.

Starting this weekend, the operations are being expanded. But migration spokesmen assure that the intensification of the operations would not include violating the human rights of the undocumented foreigners who are residing illegally in our country.
