Nuryn Sanlley Amphitheater noise pollution hearing today

A controversial case involving the noise from shows at the Santo Domingo municipal amphitheater in the Parque Iberoamericano, which is right next to a residential area and two hospitals, will be heard by the Higher Administrative Tribunal (TSA) today Monday, 24 August 2015. The court deals with cases of violations by government institutions. The noise pollution case was submitted by TV host Yolanda Martinez who has the backing of residents in La Esperilla, where the Ibero-American Park is located. The park was renovated by the city government that has converted the area next to the National Music Conservatory into a major entertainment center for city residents.

“We are asking the court to sympathize with the residents because there is a law and regulations but the authority is not applying them,” said Martinez, as quoted in El Nuevo Diario. Witnesses for Martinez include orchestra director Dante Cucurullo and La Esperilla neighborhood association secretary Leibniz Abreu.

Residents have also objected to the Bright Lights Show during the Christmas season that attracts thousands of people to the area despite the lack of parking facilities.
