Dominican imports reached a record US$8.47 billion in the first half of the year. This is 2.7% more than last year, according to statistics released by the National Statistics Office (ONE).
Dominicans purchased US$358.4 million in vehicles, that is 33.3% more than in 2014. Pharmaceutical purchases were also up 15.8% totaling US$233.2 million. The country spent US$139.4 million on telecoms equipment. At the same time, ONE reports that crude oil imports were down 72.7%, reflecting the decline in fuel prices abroad.
