Following the death on August 27 2015 of former archbishop Jozef Wesolowski, who was awaiting trial in the Vatican on charges of child sexual abuse in the Dominican Republic and possession of child pornography, the initial autopsy shows that he died of a cardiac arrest.
Wesolowski, 67, who was also the former Vatican nuncio to the Dominican Republic, where he committed several of his crimes, was awaiting trial. As reported, his body was found early in the morning by a priest who lived in the same building, slumped in front of the television that was still on. Apparently he had not been well and was under medical supervision.
At his funeral yesterday, Monday 31 August 2015, instead of a homily there was an eight-minute silence that was described as “a time for silent reflection.” In addition, a ritual prayer was said for God to cancel his sins. No cameras were allowed at the funeral and his body is due to be transported to Poland, his home country, for burial.
