Three arrested following copter crash

The police have arrested three men in connection with the theft of the pilot’s possessions and looting the houses affected by the helicopter crash earlier this week. One of those arrested was found in possession of the pilot’s gold chain, as reported in acento.com.do

The Police reported that the pilot’s empty wallet was later found inside the wreck of the helicopter.

In a TV interview, Yoquisis Jimenez, the owner of the house that was crashed into by the helicopter, said that she thought her house was being hit by another hurricane. She said she had been taking a nap when she heard the deafening noise. She said she lost consciousness when her roof caved in. She had sent her child to school and was at home alone that afternoon, and thanked God for being alive. She said that she and her family had moved to her mother’s house and that barrio dwellers had stolen most of their possessions. She was in the house to try to retrieve the remaining items that had not been stolen. Her spouse, Dayan E. Guerrero, complained that all the media focus is on the helicopter and not on them. He complained that the house is full of fuel.

Another video shows the looters in the house and the pilot being rescued. He was taken to the Dario Contreras Trauma Hospital with leg injuries.

Diario Libre reports that the 33-year old pilot Oliver Gutierrez Hiraldo is recovering in Plaza de la Salud, and that although one of his legs is not broken, it has been put in a cast. According to news reports, the crashed helicopter belongs to Pollos Cibao.
