A bill presented by Monte Plata senator Charles Mariotti that proposes to suspend the application of the Notary Public Law 140-15 for a year until a consensus is reached on the application of the new tariffs passed its first reading in the Senate yesterday, Thursday 10 September 2015.
The bill is proposing that Law 301 dating back to 1964 and its modifications and Law 89-05 that created the Dominican Notary Code should be applied once again.
Notary Public Law 140-15 has met with widespread opposition from civil society and the Supreme Court of Justice on the grounds that it would be contrary to Dominican judicial framework and would have a negative impact on the private and public sectors with new costs and procedures that are described as unsustainable, especially for small and medium-sized businesses.
