President Medina inaugurates chicken factory

On Tuesday, 15 September 2015, President Danilo Medina attended an inauguration ceremony for a broiler chicken facility owned by Pollos Cibao and located in Guayacanes in the southeastern province of San Pedro de Macoris.

The facility, which will allow for year-round production, has been in operation for two years now.

Company president Andres Villasmil said that over RD$300 million has been invested in the facility that has a controlled environment, reducing the chicken mortality rate from 30% to just 2%. The plant can produce 2.4 million chickens a year to satisfy 33% of the local market. Chickens take 36 days to reach a weight of four and a half pounds. At full capacity, the operation will generate 2,700 jobs.

The event was attended by Agriculture Minister Angel Estevez, special assistant to the President Carlos Pared Perez, the executive president of the Dominican Agro-Business Board (JAD) Osmar Benitez and the president of the Dominican Small Producers Board, Erick Rivero.
