US couple indicted for sex tourism

A married couple has been indicted on charges of organizing sex tourism for US citizens traveling to the Dominican Republic. 49-year old Jennifer Cotten and her 50-year old husband, Alfred, were arrested after a 10-month government investigation and have been charged in the New York State Supreme Court with promoting prostitution in the third degree.

Through their company, Tropical Adult Vacation, the Cottens allegedly provided US tourists with room and board and prostitutes at a hotel in Boca Chica. They apparently ran the operation from their home in Florida via online adverts.

Prosecutors say people who signed up and made the trip were met by a local company representative and then given their choice of women to have sex with during stays ranging from a day to a week, with a weekend stay typically costing US$1,500.

The Cottens, who have pleaded not guilty, were released on bail after arraignment.
