Attorney General seizes 3,000 cell phones

The Attorney General Office raided four cell phone retailers on Duarte Avenue in Santo Domingo on Tuesday, 15 September 2015. 3,000 used cell phones were seized along with 28 machines for unblocking the IMEI of the cell phones.

The action is part of the efforts by the authorities to eliminate the so-called “macos” or untraceable phones.

The devices were sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Assistant prosecutor John Hendry Reynoso said that all the devices would be analyzed to establish if they had been stolen and to verify if the 28 machines had been used to “clean up” the IMEI.
