The United States Southern Command will build four primary healthcare centers in the communities of Copellito, La Pichinga, Loma Alta and El Guayabo, in the municipalities of Cabrera and Nagua in the northeastern province of Maria Trinidad Sanchez.
National Health Service (SNS) director Ramon Alvarado made the announcement, saying said that in addition to this donation, which will benefit around 10,000 Dominicans, US Southern Command doctors will be spending four months in the country starting in April in coordination with regional medical authorities.
Alvarado added that the government was investing RD$120 million in remodeling three hospitals in Duarte (San Francisco de Macoris) and Maria Trinidad Sanchez (Nagua) provinces. He said that the work that will be carried out by the US Air Force doctors included operations by 35 specialists for reconstructive surgery, hernias, and urological and gynecological conditions, trauma, ENT and general medicine.
