DR women undefeated in FIVB Cup first round

The Dominican national women’s team in the U20 division defeated Peru yesterday, 17 September 2015, 3-0 (14 n 25, 22 n 25, 26 n 28) to advance together with Brazil, Italy and Japan to the semifinals at the FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship being held in Puerto Rico. Brazil and Italy from one end of the draw and Dominican Republic together with Japan from the other qualified for the semifinals. These start on Friday, 18 September. The DR will next play Italy at 7:30pm.

Wagner Pacheco, Dominican Republic coach commented for FIVB portal: “We knew in advance it was going to be a hard game as we weren’t qualified at all. However, we played two very good first sets and although we failed a lot in the third, almost as much as on the rest of the game, we could close it. We’re ecstatic – this is very important for a small country like the Dominican Republic. We fulfilled our first goal of entering the second round, then this goal of reaching semifinals and now, for a medal.”
