Following one year and four months of working on the National Foreigner Legalization Plan (PNRE), the Dominican government initiative is now entering its final phase and officials have been handing over the remaining identity cards to the foreigners who have regularized their status.
According to PNRE national coordinator Samir Santos, the long lines at the Ministry of Interior and Police and other government offices around the country are now disappearing.
So far 105,000 cards have been issued. The PNRE is said to have cost the Dominican government RD$1.2 billion.
