Chamber of Deputies president Abel Martinez has announced his aspirations to be the PLD candidate for mayor in Santiago. After the National District, the Santiago mayor’s post is regarded as the most coveted in the country. Martinez also asked to be included in the popularity polls that the ruling party is conducting in order to establish who should run on the PLD ticket. So far, the party has announced that Ramon (Monchy) Rodriguez, who is running on a platform of offering happiness to Santiago residents, has been chosen. He is said to have strong support from President Danilo Medina. He works in the government as general administrator of the Comedores Economicos, the low-cost food cafeterias located nationwide. He is a member of the PLD Central Committee.
Abel Martinez, who is said to have the support of former President Leonel Fernandez, said that he has announced his aspirations because Santiago needs something different, to be rescued.
