Five Dominicans and 15 Indian nationals were arrested by the Dominican Navy while attempting an illegal crossing to Puerto Rico.
According to the Navy, the operation was carried out in Las Terrenas, Samana and coordinated with the National Investigations Department (DNI), the Attorney General office and the National Police.
Two men accused of organizing the trip, Alejandro Estevez Del Orbe (Alex) and Luis Emilio Vargas Hernandez were sent to three months’ pre-trial custody.
Another man, Silvestre Antonio Then Peralta (El Chino) from San Pedro de Macoris was also arrested and handed over to the Specialized Prosecutor for Illegal Traffic of Migrants and Persons.
