President Medina heads education seminar

At the inauguration of the Ibero-American seminar on the Extended School Day yesterday, Tuesday 22 September 2015, Catalina Andujar, representative of the Organization of Ibero-American States in the country said that the Dominican Republic had exceeded its goal of having at least 10% of schools operating the extended school day by 2015.

The seminar was headed by President Danilo Medina and Education Minister Carlos Amarante Baret, with guests from Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia and Spain.

Andujar said that the extended school day was making significant contributions to improve the quality of education.

For his part, Amarante Baret acknowledged that it was important to improve the quality as well as the quantity of education. He highlighted other achievements such as improved teacher training, the establishment of nurseries and kindergartens, the literacy program, and support to vulnerable students.
