Ines Aizpun criticizes OISOE corruption

An editorial by Ines Aizpun in today’s Diario Libre, Tuesday 29 September 2015, sums it up. She writes:

“The death of architect David Rodriguez Garcia at the OISOE offices is a tragedy, yes. It is an irreparable loss, yes. But above all, it is a scandal that should not go without an in-depth investigation into the underlying fabric.

We keep acting as if things are going well. Accepting as normal, to begin with, the very existence of a parallel Office to the Ministry of Public Works from where more millionaires than we know of have come from.

We continue to act as if we believed that the awarding of public works and public work contract competitions is going well, and that no dark tenders, contracts awarded to front-men, overvaluations, or commissions are involved.

Tired of so many cases, we have stopped saying that corruption that is not prosecuted is as damaging as corruption that is committed. Enough of mayors, officials, advisors, connections and go-betweens using public funds as their personal expenses accounts.

The CODIA says today what we have all (but they more than anyone else) known about for a long time. The death of engineer Rodriguez has moved them to give a press conference, but they should denounce, in the courts and to the public, every bribe and commission that their members have to give to get a work.

The PLD is becoming the Mexican PRI before our very eyes. There is no budget that can withstand it, no society that can develop given such a great and flawed concentration of power.

Protecting the offender is never a good idea…”
