School workers on strike in Jimani

More than a thousand students in Jimani in the southwestern border province of Independencia have not been attending school for the last two weeks because around 20 employees at the schools in the area have been on strike. The administrative staff and cleaning workers at the schools are claiming that they have not been paid for the last 14 months.

The employees say that the Ministry of Education has kept promising to pay them but nothing has happened.
