A Greek-Venezuelan investment, Aliss is the newest department store catering to the Dominican public. The company recently opened its first branch at Santo Domingo’s Sambil Mall and has also announced a 29 October 2015 opening at Colinas Mall in Santiago. The company has more than 100 department stores in six countries.
The executive director of the Center for Export and Investment (CEI-RD) Jean Alain Rodriguez cut the symbolic ribbon inaugurating the store last Tuesday, 29 September 2015. He said that the company had invested around RD$360 million in a first phase and was creating around 200 new jobs.
Speaking at the event, Rodriguez said that so far this year, the DR has received US$7.3 billion in foreign investment, making it the leader in direct foreign investment for the Caribbean region. He said the country has attracted 37% of Caribbean foreign direct investment.
