Waves from hurricane Joaquin hit Montecristi shore

Strong wave action over the weekend of 3-4 October 2015 destroyed a house, several trees and caused damage to commercial buildings in Manzanillo, in the northwestern province of Montecristi. The “rising of the sea” as this phenomenon is popularly called was caused by the effects of hurricane Joaquin. One local resident, Elias Torres, said his concrete house had been destroyed and that his family had to spend the night under the stars.

In Santo Domingo, the National Meteorological Office (Onamet) forecast rain showers over most of the country. They also recommended extreme caution to north coast beachgoers and issued small craft warnings along the Caribbean coastline.
